The last couple of days I have more or less constantly active – and I am also on the go right now. But thanks to WIFI on the Greyhound at least I want to try to give you some fresh impressions of what I have been up to in the Canadian Rockies around Banff and Jasper. I am preety stoked and even the Greyhound ride right now feels more like a sightseeing tour with perfect sunshine.
But let me step a few days back… On Tuesday I teamed up with a girl from Chile I met in the hostel and went out for a 42 KM bike ride! Yep, that’s right, me on a bike! 😀

The next three days I spend on the Moose Bus guided tour from Banff via Lake Louise to Jasper and back. A felt a bit like a class trip in 10th grade but the scenery along the Icefields Parkway is just mind blowing! Apart from that there were some shooting stars, unblocked view into the milky way and lots of fun on the bus (all without pictures 🙂 ).

Lake Morraine – that’s probably what everybody imagines of the rockies. But it is sooo amazingly beautiful!
Lake Louise – not sure why this place is so famous. Still pretty nice though 🙂

Well, if the hostel is in the middle of the forest and got no shower, you just have to make due: Athabasca river. 2 degree! (yessss, it was really cold!)
You cannot only have sunny days. So you just take the next best thing: snow in August!
After a pub crawl to finish the tour, I had another half day in Banff today. So just went up quickly to the mountain next door, Tunnel Mountain. With the fresh snow caps it looks even more stunning!
And then I already went to heading to BC! 🙂

Tja mein lieber, als ich vor …39 Jahren dort war, hat es auch im August geschneit. Also schnell die Bergtour abgebrochen und zurück zum Highway, da man nie weiß wieviel Schnee fällt und wie kalt es wird. Hast du auch den Krähenfußgletscher gesehen oder war er schon geschmolzen? Und wie war es mit einer Icecat-Tour auf dem Athabasca Gletscher (übrigen damals noch mit Raupenantrieb)?
Aber diese Landschaft ist so beeindruckend, dass du sicherlich nochmal hinfährst.
Dass der Krähenfußgletscher einen Krähenfuß darstellen soll, musste man sich schon argh vorstellen… aber gesehen haben wir ihn 🙂
Die Touren auf dem Athabasca Glacier kann man noch immer machen – inzwischen mit ziemlich monströsen Trucks. Weil das aber a) 55 $ kosten soll und b) einfach ziemlich bescheuert ist, hab ich mir das mal gespart.
Das ist ja wie im Bilderbuch!
Ja, bei DER Begleitung (aber sicher auch ohne) kann ich Radfahren nur empfehlen! 🙂
